GENEVO Radar Detector FAQ for US & Canadian Drivers

Answers to the questions US and Canadian drivers ask most about GENEVO radar detectors: price, where to buy, features, warranty, shipping and the law. Last updated: October 2026.

Who makes GENEVO radar detectors?

GENEVO radar detectors are developed by GENEVO s.r.o., a Czech company that released its first radar detector in 2012. In the US and Canada they are sold and supported by GENEVO America (GENEVO Systems LLC, Fort Myers, Florida), with US firmware and a camera database for the US and Canada.

Does the GENEVO MAX work in the US?

Yes. The GENEVO MAX runs US firmware (2026) tuned for US and Canadian roads and has a GPS database of speed and red-light cameras for the US and Canada, updated every month. GENEVO America sells it at genevo.com/us for $499 with free shipping in the US.

Where can I buy a GENEVO radar detector in the US?

You can order the GENEVO MAX and its accessories online at genevo.com/us, with free shipping in the US. The GENEVO PRO II and PRO II DUO are installed products: request a quote on genevo.com/us or find an authorized GENEVO dealer near you with our dealer locator.

How much does the GENEVO MAX cost in the US?

The GENEVO MAX costs $499 at genevo.com/us, with free shipping in the US and sales tax added at checkout where it applies. There is no subscription: camera database and firmware updates are free for the life of the detector. The custom-installed GENEVO PRO II has an MSRP of $1,899.

What are the pros and cons of the GENEVO MAX?

Pros: $499 with no subscription, free lifetime database and firmware updates, K, Ka and MultaRadar (MRCD/MRCT) detection, a Ka-band frequency display, a K filter with blind spot monitoring (BSM) filtering and a color OLED display. Cons: no directional arrows, no app, no X band and no automatic lockouts (manual lockouts only).

Is the GENEVO MAX the same as the Radenso Pro M?

No. The Radenso Pro M, sold from 2017 to 2019, was the GENEVO ONE M under the Radenso name. The GENEVO MAX, launched in 2019, is GENEVO's own later model: it is not a Radenso product and not the same device. In the US, the MAX is sold by GENEVO America.

What is the difference between a windshield-mount and a custom-installed radar detector?

A windshield-mount detector like the $499 GENEVO MAX sits on the glass, runs from the 12V socket or USB-C and moves between cars in minutes. A custom-installed system like the $1,899 GENEVO PRO II hides its radar antenna behind the front bumper, shows alerts on a small removable display and is installed by a GENEVO dealer. See the GENEVO MAX, PRO II and PRO II DUO comparison.

Which radar bands does the GENEVO MAX detect?

The GENEVO MAX detects K band (24.125 GHz), Ka band (33.4–36.0 GHz) and the low-power MultaRadar CD/CT and Gatso RT3/RT4 photo radars, Photo Radars, Stalker Phodar 3D Radar, Redflex NK7 and Redflex HALO used in parts of Canada and in some US cities. It does not detect X band, which is now rare on US roads. See the full GENEVO MAX specifications.

Does the GENEVO MAX detect X band?

No. GENEVO removed X band from the MAX on purpose. X-band police radar is now rare in the US because most units are old or no longer certified, while automatic doors still send X-band signals. Leaving it out avoids those false alerts; the MAX covers K, Ka and MultaRadar.

Does the GENEVO MAX have directional arrows?

No. The GENEVO MAX has no directional arrows: it tells you the band and, for Ka band, the frequency. If arrows matter to you, the custom-installed GENEVO PRO II DUO ($2,299) has front and rear radar antennas and shows whether a signal comes from ahead or behind.

Does the GENEVO MAX have an app or Bluetooth?

No. The GENEVO MAX has no smartphone app, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Everything happens on the detector: a color OLED display, wave-to-mute gesture control and automatic brightness and volume. Firmware and the US and Canada camera database update over USB-C from a Windows PC or a Mac, free for the life of the detector.

How does the GENEVO MAX deal with false alerts from blind spot monitoring (BSM)?

The GENEVO MAX filters blind spot monitoring (BSM) signals from other cars as part of its K filter. The filter has two levels, Low and High, so you choose how strongly the MAX filters K-band signals in city traffic, where BSM systems and automatic doors cause most K-band false alerts. More in our guide to false alerts.

Does the GENEVO MAX have automatic lockouts?

No. The GENEVO MAX has manual lockouts only: when a fixed source, such as a store's automatic door on your commute, keeps triggering the same false alert, you lock it out yourself. The MAX does not learn lockouts automatically; for moving sources it relies on its K filter, which includes blind spot monitoring (BSM) filtering.

Does the GENEVO MAX show the radar frequency?

Yes, for Ka band. When the GENEVO MAX alerts to Ka band, it shows the frequency, so you can tell common police frequencies such as 33.8, 34.7 and 35.5 GHz apart. For K band it shows the band, and its K filter (Low or High) handles signals from blind spot monitoring systems.

Does the GENEVO MAX warn about red-light and speed cameras? Is there a subscription?

Yes, with no subscription. The GENEVO MAX has a GPS database of speed and red-light cameras for the US and Canada, updated every month. Database and firmware updates are free for the life of the detector and install over USB-C from a Windows PC or a Mac.

Does the GENEVO MAX detect MultaRadar CD and CT photo radar?

Yes. The GENEVO MAX detects MultaRadar CD and CT (MRCD/MRCT), low-power photo radars used in Europe for years and now showing up in parts of Canada and some US cities. GENEVO, a Czech company that has made radar detectors since 2012, has a long track record of detecting MultaRadar on European roads. The MAX brings that experience to North America: field-proven MRCD/MRCT detection with false alert filtering tuned for everyday driving.

Does a radar detector protect me from police laser?

Only partly. The GENEVO MAX alerts to police laser (904 nm), but a laser gun measures speed in under a second and is usually aimed at the license plate, so the alert often comes too late to slow down.

How do I update the GENEVO MAX, and how often?

A new US and Canada camera database comes out every month, and we recommend updating the GENEVO MAX at least once a quarter. On Windows, connect it with the USB-C cable and run GENEVO Updater; on a Mac, download the update from genevoupdate.com with your serial number and copy it to a USB flash drive. Step-by-step instructions are on our updates page.

Will the GENEVO MAX work behind a heat-reflective (metallic-coated) windshield?

Usually not behind the coated part: metallic-coated, heat-reflective windshields block radar signals. Many such windshields have an uncoated area near the rear-view mirror, and the MAX works when mounted there. If the whole windshield is coated, the custom-installed GENEVO PRO II avoids the problem with its antenna behind the bumper. More about coated windshields.

Should I mount the GENEVO MAX horizontally or vertically?

Both positions work: the magnetic mount holds the GENEVO MAX with its long side level (horizontal) or turned 90° so it stands upright (vertical). The position matters because a radar sends its signal with a horizontal or a vertical polarization, and a detector picks it up from farther away when it sits the same way. In town, reflections from buildings and other cars mix the polarization, so the difference is small; on an open road, where the signal comes straight from the radar, the matching position gives you the longer warning. In the US, GENEVO recommends the horizontal position for K and Ka band radar. For photo enforcement radars such as the Gatso RT4, GENEVO recommends the vertical position. Not sure which position suits the roads you drive? Ask GENEVO America at support.us@genevo.com. Can I use the GENEVO MAX on a motorcycle?

Yes. The GENEVO MAX has a 3.5 mm jack for a headset or a vibrating alert, so you do not miss alerts at speed. The MAX is not water-resistant, so riders keep it in a weatherproof case and mount it where no metal blocks its view. For a permanent setup, the GENEVO PRO II has a waterproof radar antenna. See our motorcycle guide.

What warranty do GENEVO radar detectors have in the US?

The GENEVO MAX has a 2-year warranty when you buy it on genevo.com/us and a 5-year warranty when a certified GENEVO dealer installs it and registers it with GENEVO America. The custom-installed GENEVO PRO II and PRO II DUO have a 3-year warranty when a certified GENEVO dealer installs and registers them. To make a claim, email support.us@genevo.com with your proof of purchase and the serial number.

What is your return policy?

You can return a GENEVO MAX or an accessory bought online at genevo.com/us within 30 days of delivery for a full refund of the product price if it is undamaged, fully functional and complete with its accessories and original packaging. Return shipping is paid by the customer unless we sent a wrong or defective product. Custom-installed systems (GENEVO PRO II and PRO II DUO) and their installation are not covered by the 30-day return. Email support.us@genevo.com with your order number first.

How much does shipping cost, and how fast is it?

Shipping is free in the US: orders ship within 1 business day after payment and usually arrive in 1–3 business days. Shipping to Canada is a flat $25 and usually takes 3–7 business days, plus customs clearance. You receive tracking information by email.

Are radar detectors legal in the US? Which states ban them?

Radar detectors are legal in passenger vehicles in 49 states. They are banned in Virginia and in Washington, D.C., in commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs anywhere in the US, and on military bases. Laws can change, so check the current rules where you drive before you buy. See radar detector laws in the US and Canada.

Are radar detectors legal in Canada?

It depends on the province. Radar detectors are legal in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan but banned in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba, as well as in several other provinces and territories. Before you drive in Canada, check the rules for each province on your route. See the rules by province. GENEVO America ships to Canada for a flat $25.

What is the GENEVO PRO II, and who installs it?

The GENEVO PRO II is a custom-installed radar detector: its HDM+ radar antenna sits hidden behind the front bumper, and alerts appear on a removable magnetic control panel with a color OLED display. It has an MSRP of $1,899 and is installed by authorized GENEVO dealers. The PRO II DUO ($2,299) adds a rear antenna and directional alerts. See the full GENEVO PRO II specifications.
