Which radar bands does the GENEVO MAX detect?
The GENEVO MAX detects the K band (24.125 GHz) and the Ka band (33.4–36.0 GHz) used by police radar in the US and Canada, and the low-power photo enforcement radars MultaRadar CD/CT, Gatso RT3/RT4, Stalker Phodar 3D, Redflex NK7 and Redflex HALO used in parts of Canada and in some US cities. Every band can be switched off, and each of the 4 Ka segments can be switched on or off on its own.
MultaRadar CD and CT have been used in Europe for years and are now showing up in North America. GENEVO, a Czech company that has made radar detectors since 2012, has a long track record of detecting them on European roads.
| Band | Frequency | Settings |
|---|---|---|
| K band | 24.125 GHz; Narrow ±70 MHz, Wide ±150 MHz | Narrow, Wide or Off |
| Ka band, narrow | 33.8, 34.3, 34.7 and 35.5 GHz, each ±120 MHz | Each segment On or Off; the alert shows the Ka frequency |
| Ka band, wide | 33.4–36.0 GHz | Narrow, Wide or Off |
| Laser (lidar) | 904 nm | On or Off |
| MultaRadar CD/CT | Photo enforcement radar | CD On or Off; CT Narrow, Wide or Off |
| Gatso RT3/RT4 | Photo enforcement radar | RT3 and RT4 each On or Off |
| Stalker Phodar 3D | Photo enforcement radar | On or Off |
| Redflex NK7 | Photo enforcement radar | On or Off |
| Redflex HALO | Photo enforcement radar | On or Off |
| X band | Not supported | GENEVO removed X band because X-band police radar is now rare in the US |
How does the GENEVO MAX filter false alerts?
The GENEVO MAX separates police radar from other signals with band filters, 3 sensitivity modes and manual lockouts. Blind spot monitoring (BSM) systems in modern cars transmit around 24 GHz, the same K band that police radar uses, so the K filter of the GENEVO MAX, with a Low and a High level, includes GENEVO's BSM filtering.
| K filter | High, Low or Off; filters false K-band alerts, including the blind spot monitoring (BSM) systems of nearby cars |
|---|---|
| Ka filter | High, Normal or Off; suppresses Ka-band false alerts from sources other than police radar |
| MultaRadar filter | High, Low or Off; filters false MultaRadar alerts from cars with blind spot assist or adaptive cruise control, with slightly lower MultaRadar sensitivity |
| Sensitivity modes | Highway (full sensitivity); City (ignores K or Ka signals up to a strength you set, 0–9); Auto City (silent below a speed you set, City in a middle speed range, full sensitivity above it) |
| Minimum speed | No radar alerts below a speed you set, or Off |
| Lockouts | Manual: hold the Brightness button during a false alert to lock out that location. No automatic GPS lockouts. Lockout Reset deletes all lockouts. |
Does the GENEVO MAX have arrows, an app or X band?
No. The GENEVO MAX has no direction arrows, no smartphone app (no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) and no X-band detection, which GENEVO removed on purpose because X-band police radar is now rare in the US. Lockouts are manual only, so the GENEVO MAX does not learn false alert locations by GPS on its own. Drivers who want arrows can choose the GENEVO PRO II DUO, a custom-installed detector with front and rear radar antennas, sold through GENEVO dealers for $2,299 MSRP.
Metal-coated (heat-reflective) windshields block much of the radar signal and drastically reduce the range of the GENEVO MAX, as they do for any windshield-mounted radar detector. For those cars GENEVO recommends the GENEVO PRO II ($1,899 MSRP), whose radar antenna sits behind the front bumper.

How is the GENEVO MAX updated?
The GENEVO MAX is updated over USB-C from a Windows PC or a Mac at genevoupdate.com. GENEVO releases a new US and Canada camera database every month, and the GENEVO MAX reminds you at startup when its database is out of date. Firmware and database updates are free for life, with no subscription; the steps are on the Updates and Support page.
Which firmware does the GENEVO MAX run in the US?
The current US firmware is FW002, released in May 2026. The Info menu of the GENEVO MAX shows the installed firmware version, the database version and the serial number.

Is a radar detector legal where I drive?
Radar detectors are legal in passenger vehicles in most of the US. They are banned in Virginia and Washington, D.C., in commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs anywhere in the US and on military bases, and they are prohibited in several Canadian provinces, including Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba. Check the rules where you drive before you buy; see the Legal use section of our terms.
